A body was found dead in the New River near Las Olas Boulevard early Saturday morning, according to Fort Lauderdale police.
Authorities say that a call was made about a person in “distress” in the water at around 2:40 am, which prompted Broward Sheriff’s Office’s Aviation Unit to head to the scene.
Witnesses claim that a a good Samaritan jumped in the water to try to save the person but eventually lost contact with them in the water, according to CBS News.
Fort Lauderdale Police’s dive team located a body and while they believe it is to be the missing swimmer, they have not officially identified them and an investigation is currently underway.
